One Manchester club has an non-professional veterans squad with 9 ex- top-flight footballers in their current roster.

Two Hundred Twenty-Two Top Division Scores, Three Hundred Twenty-Five Global Appearances

The team Vets Over 35s are situated in south the city and play in the Cheshire-based Vets League Premier Division.

Their squad list this campaign includes nine former Premier League players, with a combined nearly 1,800 elite games.

In total, the former top-flight footballers have secured fifteen significant trophies and transferred for combined transfer sums of around £123 million.

Household Names and Global Players

Stephen Ireland started playing for the side during preseason this summer through close mate and present Wythenshawe player Blake Norton, and the former Republic of Ireland midfielder then asked other ex-pros, who all compete in a midweek small-sided game, to participate.

Such is the squad depth at the club, he had his first game at full-back.

"It's a bit unusual but then, I love sprinting and just move inside - I'm not staying back that much," he added.

"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to continue running.

"That movement is what I'm seeking. It's good fun."

'Surreal Scenario

Along with Cisse's six scores on debut, Ireland has netted eight in three games for Wythenshawe, while Boyd scored five on his debut appearance and Joleon Lescott, a defender by trade, notched a hat-trick in one game up front.

Wythenshawe are top of the Premier Tier with 3 wins from 3 and a GD of plus nineteen.

Paul Barrow, 38, who plays on the wing for the opposition, came up against former Latics full-back Figueroa on the weekend - and had to explain his young boy who Emile Heskey was.

He has played at two World Cups for his country, in as well as featuring in over 200 top-flight games.

"It was going round like wildfire they had all these former top-flight players," remarked Barrow.

"I felt I was a bit awestruck facing Figueroa to be honest.

"Also Emile [Heskey] came on and he's has over 60 England caps.

"We competed well for a solid 20 mins but then we had a man dismissed and it was hard.

"We really have not stopped chatting about it - I was phoning my mother and sibling on the journey home.

"They were all dead sound, shaking our hands after the match - it was like playing a bunch of normal guys.

"Now we are eager for the second fixture."
